UCAS, is the UK central organisation through which applications are processed for entry to full time first degrees, HNDs and university diplomas to higher education by providing services to applicants, schools and colleges and to institutions offering higher education programmes, Its objective is to "Enable learners to make informed choices and achieve their full potential through higher education, and Enable institutions to admit learners on an equal and fair basis".
UCAS was established in August 1993 from the merger of the former Universities Central on Admissions (UCA), the Polytechnics Central Admissions System (PCAS) and the Standing Conference on University Entrance (SCUE).
UCAS does not only process applications for places but is also involved in research, consultancy, publication and other advisory activities to enable all parties make the most of the system. They are the 'one-stop shop' where anyone interested in access to higher education can obtain the necessary service or information.
UCAS is a company limited by guarantee and a charity. Its income is derived from the fees paid by each applicant, subscriptions from participating universities and colleges (at a level based on the numbers of students they admit), and from commercial activities.
Although UCAS forms and information can be accessed online, British Council in Nigeria as part of its educational services receives forms from UCAS and gives to interested students. Although measures to ensure that the forms are not misused are in place. Interested applicants would be required to bring results for sighting as well as a letter of sponsorship to show the UK.
